State of AI for Small Business: June 2026

Every month we pull together the AI developments that actually matter for small business owners in Northeast Indiana and beyond. No benchmark scores, no hype. What changed, what it means for you, and where to go next.
Claude for Small Business: AI inside the tools you already use
This is the biggest small business AI story of the month. On May 13, Anthropic launched Claude for Small Business, a plugin that runs inside Claude Cowork and connects directly to the tools most small businesses already run on.
It connects to QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365. Toggle it on inside Cowork, connect the tools you already use, and pick the job. It ships with 15 ready-to-run agentic workflows across finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service. Claude does the work and you approve before anything sends, posts, or pays.
It requires no additional charge beyond your existing Claude plan and whatever partner tools you already pay for.
The practical starting point: if you use QuickBooks for invoicing or HubSpot for contacts, this connects Claude directly to those records and can draft follow-ups, summarize accounts, or process documents without you copying anything into a chat window.
Where to start: claude.com/solutions/small-business, toggle on the plugin inside Cowork and type "get me started." For more, read Anthropic's official announcement and this plain-English setup guide.
Claude Design: Build marketing assets that actually look like your brand
On June 17, Anthropic shipped a major update to Claude Design, its AI visual creation tool. This one is worth paying attention to if you spend time building marketing materials, proposals, or website mockups.
You can now import your own design system from GitHub, a design file, or an upload. Claude Design will build using those approved components and automatically check its output against your design system before showing it to you.
A /design-sync command pulls your design system into Claude Code, and a /design command lets you create, edit, and sync projects from the terminal. Work stays in sync between the design surface and the build rather than being copied across and slowly going stale.
For a small business owner, the practical use case is simpler than it sounds: describe a landing page, a sales one-pager, or a proposal layout, and Claude Design builds a visual mockup you can export as a PDF or hand to a developer. More than one million users tried it in its first week after launching in April.
Where to start: claude.ai/design, available on paid Claude plans. For more, read VentureBeat's breakdown of the June update.
Salesforce Agentforce: AI built into your CRM
If you already use Salesforce, or have been considering it, this matters. Agentforce is now built into Salesforce's Free, Starter, and Pro Suites with no setup and no extra cost. Small businesses can activate an Employee Agent that instantly summarizes records and drafts personalized email copy.
Salesforce's Summer 2026 release, available June 15, brings multi-agent orchestration to general availability, along with Slack-first workflows and real-time data activation. In plain terms: multiple AI agents can now work together inside Salesforce to handle end-to-end workflows. A prospect fills out a form, Agentforce qualifies them, drafts an intro email, and logs the activity, all without you touching it.
If you are not on Salesforce yet, this is not a reason to jump in. Salesforce is still a significant investment for a small business. But if you are already there, the AI layer is now included and worth turning on.
Where to start: salesforce.com/small-business. For more, read Salesforce's Agentforce for Small Business announcement.
ChatGPT inside your spreadsheets
ChatGPT for Excel and Google Sheets is now available for ChatGPT Business customers, giving teams a spreadsheet-native sidebar for building, cleaning up, updating, and explaining workbooks. Describe what you want in plain language and it builds the formula, restructures the data, or explains what a column is doing.
For most small business owners, ChatGPT Plus at $20 per month gets you close to the same capability without needing a Business plan.
Where to start: chatgpt.com, and look for the Excel or Sheets integration in your settings.
The number worth knowing this month
Small business AI usage jumped from 40 percent to 58 percent in a single year, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. And 91 percent of small businesses using AI report that it increases their revenue, according to Salesforce.
The businesses building repeatable AI workflows right now are pulling ahead of the ones waiting to see how it shakes out.
What to do this month
Pick one of these and spend 30 minutes this week:
- If you use QuickBooks, PayPal, or HubSpot: install Claude for Small Business and run one workflow.
- If you build marketing assets or proposals: try Claude Design on one real project.
- If you are a Salesforce user: turn on Agentforce in your Suite settings, it is already included.
- If you have a specific operational problem that off-the-shelf tools do not fit: that is when a custom build makes sense.
